Spring is the perfect time to dust away those cobwebs, freshen up your living space and bring a bit of the season into your home. Here are a few creative ideas to give your house a fresh, new look for springtime:
Force Spring Blooming Branches
When buds begin to swell on your crab apple, forsythia or other flowering tree, prune off a few branches and bring them inside. Add them to a vase of warm water and place them in a sunny window. In a few weeks, you will have gorgeous, graceful blooms cheering up your room.
Add a Bed Skirt for a Fresh New Look
Bed skirts can be made quickly and easily with a simple square of fabric, or even a colorful sheet. Opt for bold, bright flowers or other colorful patterns to bring the vibrancy of spring to your bedroom.
Decorate Your Curtains with Leaf Prints
Bring in a bit of the outside by printing the edge of your curtains with colorful leaf prints. Use a brayer to roll fabric paint onto a variety of leaves. Press onto your fabric, cover with a piece of scrap paper, and use a clean brayer to press the leaf onto your fabric. Most fabric paints will have to be heat-set with an iron before washing.
Create a Living Wreath
Place a wire wreath frame on top of sphagnum moss and hold in place with florist's wire. Add a variety of succulent cuttings, along with moss and lichen gathered from outside. To water, submerge in a warm bath for about 10 minutes. Let dry thoroughly between watering. Do not hang your wreath upright until the roots have become established.
Give a Makeover to a Small End or Coffee Table
Add a spark of color to your living room with an old table and a can of spray paint. Lightly sand your table, prime with a spray-on primer, then spray with a few coats of paint for a quick, fresh look. Try lime-green, tangerine or turquoise for a bold pop of color.
Switch to Sheer Curtains
Let in the light with curtains that will delicately stir in the spring breeze. Sheer curtains come in a variety of colors and patterns. Opt for light colors and simple patterns that let the sunlight into your room.
With the onset of spring comes the yearning for fresh color palettes and bold new looks. What colors and patterns will you be decorating with this spring?
